I used three hydraulic cylinders to build the hydraulic log splitter. Two smaller cylinders drive the knife and the wood feeder, the largest hydraulic cylinder splits .I used three hydraulic cylinders to build the hydraulic log splitter. Two smaller cylinders drive the knife and the wood feeder, the largest hydraulic cylinder splits wood. Everything is connected to two hydraulic distributors, a single-section distributor designed for log splitter, and a universal two-section distributor. For two smaller hydraulic cylinders I had to install valves to slow them. The I beam and pusher are too light a gauge steel for our wood- Oaks – live, Black Chestnut. I prefer the end plate on the end, the wedge on the ram, when working large bolts, that saves steps.Do like the 2 detent valve, that allows the operator to work during the stroke. I use a tractor mounted 3-point splitter. I can lower the splitter down on the ground, slab the large rounds, then raise the splitter to waist height to split the slabs, it’s a lot quieter than the small engine powered splitters. A single ram can split, also lift the rounds with some ingenuity.seen it done.
